  1.                        FULL MOON RITUAL - 28 OCT 85
  2.                        ----------------------------
  3.  
  4.          (Purpose:  Prevent passage of Amendment 705 to HR 3036.) 
  5.  
  6.                           PREPARATORY MEDITATION:
  7.  
  8. (Relax, regularize your breathing, and center.  Visualize the following 
  9.  scenes, as if they were on television before you:
  10.  
  11.     First, build up a detailed picture of Lady Liberty, as she is 
  12.     portrayed at her shrine on Ellis Island.  The statue inhales once, 
  13.     then becomes the living Goddess of Liberty.  The light of her torch 
  14.     outshines the sun, and can be seen from horizon to horizon.  The light 
  15.     is the light of Her wisdom and power, protecting the liberty of all on 
  16.     this continent.  
  17.  
  18.     Change the scene.  A group of ugly, gnomish men crouch in a carefully 
  19.     darkened room.  They piously lower their heads to pray, but from their 
  20.     gathering-place billows a dark cloud, blotting out the light.  The 
  21.     proud, happy smile on Liberty's face wavers - then is replaced by fear
  22.     as the cloud billows rapidly outwards from the Capitol.
  23.  
  24.     Summon to a nearby place the God of America - who probably looks a lot 
  25.     like Uncle Sam, but in no way clownish.  As he strides forward to see 
  26.     the cloud, his face is angry.  Feel that anger, and revel in it.  See 
  27.     and feel the fear of Liberty, as the cloud battles her light.  
  28.    
  29.     From out of the sun, an eagle dives towards the Capitol building.  
  30.     Look down on the city by the Potomac from the eagle's point of view, 
  31.     and search the center of the dark clouds until a piece of paper 
  32.     glimmers.  The offending item has been found, and it is labelled 
  33.     "House Resolution 3036, Amendment 705."  The gnomes are crowded around 
  34.     it, trying to protect it from the only force that can stop them - the 
  35.     combined anger of the Gods and the American people.  In addition to 
  36.     Liberty's fear and America's anger, feel the fierce, stern pride of 
  37.     America's Eagle, as the battle is joined.) 
  38.  
  39.                                PROCESSIONAL: 
  40.  
  41. All holding hands, process into and three times around the circle area 
  42. chanting "I Circle Around": 
  43.  
  44.          "I circle around, I circle around The bound'ries of the Earth ...  
  45.           Wearing my long wing feathers as I fly, Wearing my long wing 
  46.           feathers as I fly ..." (repeat) 
  47.  
  48.                   SUMMONING THE GUARDIANS OF THE FOUR CORNERS: 
  49.  
  50. Priest signals for quiet, advances to the center, lights the four 
  51. remaining candles.  After a brief pause for meditation, cries out: 
  52.  
  53.     "Hail, mighty Spirits of the Dead!  We call on you though the season 
  54.      is not yet ripe, for our need is great.  Send forth to be with us the 
  55.      spirits of four mighty heros of Freedom, to defend the country that 
  56.      they once gave their all for.  We summon forth the spirits of George 
  57.      Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and Abraham Lincoln.  
  58.      Even so, now come!" 
  59.  
  60. Priest looks to the north, and asks, "Who here speaks for Franklin?" 
  61.  
  62. "Benjamin Franklin" takes a candle from the altar, advances to the north 
  63. edge of the circle, and places it.  Then facing inward, with a stern face, 
  64. says: 
  65.  
  66.     "We must all hang together, or we shall all surely hang separately."
  67.  
  68. Priest calls to the east, "Who here speaks for Washington?" 
  69.  
  70. "George Washington" takes a candle from the altar and places it to the 
  71. east, as above, then says: 
  72.  
  73.     "The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on
  74.      the Christian Religion."
  75.  
  76. Priest calls to the south, "Who here speaks for Jefferson?" 
  77.  
  78. "Thomas Jefferson" places the south candle as above, then says: 
  79.  
  80.     "The churches fear me, and with good reason, for I have sworn eternal 
  81.      emnity against all forms of tyranny over the minds of men." 
  82.  
  83. Priest calls to the east, "Who here speaks for Lincoln?" 
  84.  
  85. "Abraham Lincoln" places the final candle, then says: 
  86.  
  87.     "We are now engaged in a great civil war, to determine whether that 
  88.      nation, or any nation so constituted, may long endure." 
  89.  
  90.                            STATEMENT OF PURPOSE: 
  91.  
  92. The Priest continues: 
  93.  
  94.     "Behold, my dear brothers and sisters, this latest attack on your 
  95.      freedom:
  96.  
  97.     "They would take away the Goddess and substitute their own pale, 
  98.      sickly ways!  They will take away our money, but leave those of their 
  99.      dead, skeletal churches!  No longer will we be able to build as we 
  100.      will, marry as we will - perhaps even worship as we will!  What say 
  101.      you all?" 
  102.  
  103.                              RAISING OF POWER: 
  104.  
  105. One by one widdershins, each person in the circle shouts "NO!" and an 
  106. extension, as in ...  
  107.  
  108.     "NO!  It shall not pass!"  "NO!  We will not permit this!" "NO!  The 
  109.     Constitution forbids it!"  "NO!  This is not the Law!" "NO!  We will 
  110.     never surrender!"  "NO!  This is not right!" (etc).  
  111.  
  112. When the call returns to the Priest, he continues immediately 
  113. chanting "NO!  NO!   NO! ..." and leads the circle in a spiral inwards, 
  114. widdershins.  Each person has his or her right hand on the person in 
  115. front's shoulder, and clutches the prepared "Ballot" in the right hand.  
  116. When the Priest reaches the Ballot Box, he drops in his ballot, then 
  117. begins the march in a spiral outward, deosil.  Once all have dropped in 
  118. their ballots, the spiral returns inwards widdershins, still chanting 
  119. "NO!", until it can wind no tighter and seizes up.  
  120.  
  121.                          TRIGGERING OF THE SPELL: 
  122.  
  123. This will be the signal for a five-second pause, then on the Priest's 
  124. signal, all scream "NO!", releasing the energy that they have raised into 
  125. the ballots, to re-emerge in Washington D.C. amidst the Conference 
  126. Committee.  
  127.  
  128.                                  FOLLOW-THROUGH 
  129.  
  130. Priest announces:
  131.  
  132.     "The votes have been cast.
  133.      The ammendment has failed.
  134.      So mote it be!"
  135.  
  136. All echo:
  137.  
  138.     "SO MOTE IT BE!"
  139.  
  140.                                    GROUNDING: 
  141.  
  142. Brief pause as everyone re-centers and relaxes, then one or more people in 
  143. the crowd yells, "Hey!  We won!" and all yell, "Group Hug!!!"  After a 
  144. long, satisfying group hug, all disperse to celebrate.
